Accountancy or taxation professional Apprenticeship

Accountancy or taxation professionals are recognised around the world as respected leaders in accountancy, taxation, finance and business. From providing strategic business advice to audited financial statements or driving mergers and acquisitions, a career as an Accountancy or taxation professional can be diverse and challenging; it’s not just about putting numbers into a spreadsheet. Accountancy or taxation professionals use technical knowledge, skills, and experience to lead organisations and people to make responsible and sustainable financial decisions. They are required to act in the public interest and must therefore maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and competency; always upholding ethical behaviour and integrity.

Accountancy or taxation professionals provide financial information and advice to organisations of all types. The role may be located within in the Finance Department of our University.

Payroll Apprenticeships

Payroll Assistant Managers and Administrators will, typically, have responsibility for setting up and operating the payroll within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation.  The role may be located within the HR or Finance function.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to ensure that the employer’s workforce is paid on time and accurately in accordance with worker contractual and United Kingdom regulatory/statutory obligations. Working compliantly and in line with best practices are therefore essential features of the occupation.

Accountancy or Taxation Professional Apprenticeship Level 7

This is suitable for those leading in the provision of financial expertise to support organisational strategy. Entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications, training, or other criteria (typically A Levels or equivalent) will vary. Completion of the Accountancy or taxation professional apprenticeship will result in eligibility to apply for membership of one or more of the UK professional Bodies below:

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

It is anticipated that candidates will typically complete the apprenticeship in 36 months, but this may vary due to prior qualifications and relevant work experience.

Payroll Assistant Manager Level 5

A Payroll Assistant Manager will be accountable for the performance of their team of Payroll Administrators. This includes not only the timeliness and accuracy of payments but also the development of the team. They will take key decisions for themselves on complex payroll calculations and will guide their team on payroll-related issues. They may also be expected to make recommendations to their organisation surrounding the systems and processes used for payroll processing. Typical roles include; Deputy payroll manager, Payroll assistant manager, Payroll supervisor, Payroll team leader Senior payroll administrator or advisor.

It is anticipated that candidates will typically complete the apprenticeship in 24 months, but this may vary due to prior qualifications and relevant work experience.

Payroll Administrator Level 3

Payroll Administrators will, typically, have responsibility for setting up and operating the payroll within the organisation in which they are employed. A Payroll Administrator may work as part of a team, often reporting to a team leader, supervisor, or manager. They may also have responsibility for the gathering, creation, and processing of payroll-related information to ensure employees are paid on time and accurately. This will be via payroll software, though it’s use must be accompanied by the ability to perform this manually. Typical job titles include Payroll Administrator,  Payroll Assistant, Payroll Clerk, Payroll Executive or HR and Payroll Officer. It is anticipated that candidates will typically complete their apprenticeship within 18-24 months, however, this may vary due to prior qualifications and relevant work experience.

Completion of the Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship may provide progression opportunities to more senior positions such as Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager within Payroll, or to move to related roles in departments such as HR, Finance or Pensions.

Our training providers for the above apprenticeships are external to our university and come highly recommended by our current apprentices. They are also recommended and rated as ‘Good providers’ by the Institute for Apprenticeships.
