Social Sports and Activities

Social Sports and Activities

Across the University there are a wide variety of clubs and activities available to colleagues, free of charge, with a focus on benefiting your mental health and wellbeing.

Being active is a natural mood booster and one of the best things we can do for our mental health and wellbeing.  Our bodies release feel-good hormones when we’re active that can also reduce anxiety and stress and help us sleep better.

We currently have the following activities available to colleagues:

Monday

Online Yoga
12.15 – 13.00
Due to low numbers we will no longer be delivering online yoga on a Monday lunch time.  Please scroll down to Other Activities where  you can find links to FREE online yoga classes.

Wednesday

Pilates
12.00 – 13.00

This 50-minute class takes place every Wednesday and is suitable for all abilities.  The sessions are led by Tina El Bikam who has over 30 years of experience in the business and works at the University as a Lecturer in Sports Therapy.

Prior to attending the session, please complete a short questionnaire: PARQ-short-version.pdf (bpb-eu-w2.wpmucdn.com) and email it to Tina at: telbikam@lincoln.ac.uk

Thursday

Social Running Club
17.30

This group is open to both colleagues and students and meets in reception at the Brayford Campus Sports Centre every Thursday at 17.30.

Whether you have signed up to the Lincoln 10k, London Marathon, or at the start of your running journey, the social running club is a great way to get into fitness, meet new colleagues and get outside.

The sessions are informal and friendly and there is always a warm-up and chat at the start to discuss everyone’s running routes.

There is a What’s App Social Running Group chat which colleagues use as a tool for social interaction and encouragement as well as updates re: any changes of routes and often a quick check on who is attending each session.  If you wish to be added to this What’s App group, please email: staffwellbeing@lincoln.ac.uk and confirm your name and mobile number.

Kitchen Garden
Providing space at the Brayford Campus for students and colleagues to grow their own food, the Kitchen Garden can be found behind Witham House (where the Chaplaincy resides). It was established in 2017, alongside a small number of heritage variety apple trees that were planted in open spaces around the Student Village. A water butt to collect rainwater was installed around the back of the Witham House building to help with the watering of the garden.  All volunteers, colleagues and students, to partake in the upkeep of the Kitchen Garden.  We usually meet regularly on Wednesdays between 1-2pm and if you would like to join us please email us at: environment@lincoln.ac.uk
