EDI At Lincoln
The University of Lincoln is committed to transforming lives and communities, and to attracting diverse talent from across the globe. As the University continues to grow and evolve, so does our approach to celebrating and embracing diversity in all its forms, so that all who work, and study here can fulfil their potential and thrive.
As a community, we unite to create a respectful and inclusive environment where discrimination and hate in any form is not tolerated and where our staff and students can work and study without fear of experiencing bullying, harassment, victimisation, or discrimination due to any and all individual and protected characteristics.
Our Vice Chancellor, Senior Leadership Team and College and School Leadership Teams fully support our approach to Inclusion and to implementing continued efforts that embrace diversity, while remaining self-reflective, learning continuously, and improving as a University that proudly values and carries out its civic responsibility in support of the Equality Act.
We work to effect change to challenge structural inequities, taking a strongly intersectional approach and recognising the reality and impact of overlapping social systems of disadvantage and privilege. In a rapid changing landscape, we continue to work to tackle the persistent disadvantages and barriers that exist, in relation to disability, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQIA+, faith, socio-economic and trans equity and inclusion.
The Public Sector Equality Duty
The public sector equality duty (PSED) is a legal obligation for anyone who works in or on behalf of the public sector to consider how to stop discrimination, support equality and make good relations. It covers staff, customers and other users of service
The Public Sector Equality Duty came into force in April 2011 (section 149 of the Equality Act 2010) and public authorities like the Ministry of Justice are now required, in carrying out their functions, to have due regard to the need to achieve the objectives set out under section149 of the Equality Act 2010 to:
Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010;
Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;
Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
To ensure transparency, and to assist in the performance of this duty, the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 require public authorities to publish:
Equality objectives, at least every four years (from 6th April 2012)
Information to demonstrate their compliance with the public sector equality duty (from 31st January 2012
One Community Values

One Community Values
At the University of Lincoln we are One Community and strive to be kind, patient, and supportive of each other. Our One Community Values define our One Community ethos and are a framework to ensure that respectful and inclusive behaviours should be at the heart of all we do – for each other, our partners, and our customers (internally and externally) both in our thoughts and our actions.

Equality
We respect and value all members of our community and actively reject discrimination, seeking to promote equality for all. We value diversity and believe that while we are all different, each of us deserves equality of opportunity and the right to transparency in how we are treated.
Understanding
We are all individuals, together as one community. As part of this, we recognise we have different opinions, outlooks, and philosophies. We try to understand other points of view, even if we disagree with them.
Listening
We give others our attention and respect and allow people the space to contribute to conversations. We listen to the quiet voices as well as the loud ones and speak up with them when we need to.
Kindness
We are kind to other people in the words we choose and the actions we take, especially when nobody else is looking or we will not benefit personally.
Acceptance
We accept people for who they are, and respect each person’s background, identity, beliefs, and differences. We appreciate the diverse range of experiences and perspectives in our community which strengthens it.
