Development Opportunities

The following development is aimed to support those individuals who may be leaving the University in the next few months. If you have any questions about any of the below, please contact od@lincoln.ac.uk where a member of the team will be able to help. The learning and development support has been categorised as follows to help you see what is available;

Online modules and self help guides can be accessed through the links provided and workshops can be booked onto via My View. More online modules will become available by the end of June. Colleagues can also use websites, podcasts, Ted Talks and articles to enhance their knowledge and learning further.

Change

As we move through this period of change, people will deal with situations differently and individuals may recognise the need for support in this area. Change can be unsettling for some people, especially if there are levels of uncertainty. The below sessions, forums and modules are there to support colleagues in different ways as we navigate through this change.

  • Change Management Online Module
  • Emotional Intelligence Workshop – 20th June 2024
  • Management Essentials – Coaching Skills Workshop – 30th May 2024 or 11th July 2024
  • Colleague Engagement Groups – short 1 hour sessions allowing colleagues the opportunity to join together to discuss their feelings and gain advice on dealing with the current environment and change programme – 25th June or 17th July
  • Management Engagement Groups – short 1.5 hour sessions focused on people managers in sharing best practice on how to support their teams through the change programme. An opportunity to ask advice on how to handle situations and resources provided to support managers – 28th May or 5th June or 2nd July

Resilience & Mental Health

When there are multiple things changing in an environment, or perhaps some things are unknown, it can take a toll on our mental health. The below development is accessible to colleagues where you feel you or your team, may benefit from building your resilience and supporting mental health.

Transferable Skills

As we move through the change programme, you may feel this is a useful opportunity to assess your current skill set or look to seek alternative job opportunities. For those colleagues leaving the University in particular, these sessions will support this transition and can be accessed in various ways.

HEAR Scheme

The HEAR team are offering additional tailored support for staff leaving the University who wish to submit their application for Associate Fellowship (D1), Fellowship (D2) or Senior Fellowship (D3) via the internal HEAR scheme.

The next deadline is Monday 3 June (12 noon). Results will be ratified at the HEAR panel on Wednesday 17 July and outcomes will be communicated shortly after this date.

Support available prior to applying includes: a one-to-one consultation with a member of the HEAR team to talk about your specific situation, and written feedback on a draft application (if submitted by Monday 20 May). Please note that award is not guaranteed.

Staff who wish to access additional support should email HEAR@lincoln.ac.uk. Please state your expected end-date of employment and the Fellowship category you are planning to apply for.

According to the terms of our accreditation with Advance HE, applicants must be employees of the University of Lincoln at the point of award. Staff leaving before 17 July will need to apply directly to Advance HE (please note, there is a cost associated with this which is payable by the individual). The HEAR team can advise if this is the case.

Extended Access to Internal Training

Any colleague, who is leaving the University through either voluntary severance or redundancy, who wishes to access any of our ‘in person’ workshops, you can do so for up to 2 months after your leave date. If you’d like to reserve a space or enquire about places available on a particular workshop, please contact od@lincoln.ac.uk where a member of team will be able to advise.

Digital Skills Training

Two exciting digital skills sessions have been developed to enhance your digital literacy; ‘Organisation and Management’ & ‘Effective Communication and Collaboration’.

Organisation and Management –  13th August

It will focus on using the office 365 suite to more effectively plan, organise and manage your workload. All of the content in this session is focused on how you can manage your own work individually. During the session you will have the opportunity to learn about tools and approaches and have a chance to try these approaches with support in the room. We will mostly focus on the following Microsoft tools: Outlook, teams, planner/todo & OneNote.

Effective communication and collaboration – 20th August

The session focusses on using the office 365 suite to more effectively communicate and collaborate using a mixture of tools. This course is suitable for everyone who needs to collaborate or work with wider groups. These sessions are designed to be hands-on and focus on teaching new techniques or more effective ways to communicate with wider groups. The session will focus on using Outlook, teams, forms, whiteboard & padlet.

Programme Funding Scheme

The University are able to offer a 20% contribution to University of Lincoln MastersProgrammes (including MBA) to support colleagues leaving the University through the voluntary severance and redundancy programmes. We are also able to offer a small number of fully funded University of Lincoln short courses.

If colleagues feel this may be of interest and applicable to their situation, they can seek advice by emailing od@lincoln.ac.uk and including the title of the programme or short coursethat they are considering.

For colleagues who are considering the MBA; please enquire through askwbdl@lincoln.ac.ukinitially for an expression of interest chat and to discuss what level of qualification would be appropriate for you. In the subject line please do highlight that you are applying as part of the Outplacement Support programme. There is an online information event on 10th July at 18:00 where you can find out more about the courses available, please email askwbdl@lincoln.ac.uk for the link.

To apply for funding, please email od@lincoln.ac.uk for an application form and copy of the Terms & Conditions. Please note that this is on a first come first serve basis and applications will be considered up to 30th August 2024. The programme must commence before the 30thJuly 2025 and funding outcomes will be communicated to applicants within 2 weeks of receiving the application.

You can then follow the standard application process for the programme itself, attaching the sponsorship confirmation to your online application.

Workshops with Professor Sharon Green

Two exciting workshops are scheduled with Professor Sharon Green on effective leadership and impact. These workshops are running on the 3rd and 11th July and you can book simply through MyView. An overview of what will be covered can be found below.  

Effective leadership Workshop

Becoming an Effective Leader’ is the essential toolkit for those seeking to enter leadership roles. This session walks the delegate through the evolution of leadership. We then move on to examine the vital area of Emotional intelligence and how the development of resilience, can transform the manager’s career, and significantly benefit employers. We examine practical steps you can take to become a truly inspiring and genuine leader. We look at tactics you can apply to enhance motivation, and to communicate effectively as leader. Finally, you will learn how to create an inspiring leadership vision, and how to lead your team ethically and with integrity.

What does impact in teaching and learning look like?

Applying for fellowships or promotions requires the candidate to demonstrate impact. This session will explore how impact can be identified and claimed as part of applications. . This session outlines how and why we demonstrate impact, how impact can best be achieved in the planning stages of submissions, how impact can be sustained, captured and communicated within the context of teaching and learning in further and higher education.
