Black History Month 2021

Black History Month 2021: Proud To Be

We take this opportunity to celebrate and highlight Black History Month (BHM) 2021. As a university, we have planned thought-provoking events and activities to raise awareness and educate.

We are incredibly excited to celebrate BHM as it provides the opportunity for all within our community to learn about a past, various cultures and people of which they may have little awareness. BHM also provides an opportunity to build on our One Community values to develop a diverse and inclusive community within the university and the wider community.

The theme of this year celebration is ‘Proud to be’. All people across the globe are invited to share what they are proud to be. For example, Proud To Be Black, Proud To Be Brown, Proud To Be LGBTQ+, Proud To Be Me.

This year the celebrations will be held virtually and on campus!

This month, I am excited to harness the passion of students, the Students’ Union and the University to celebrate and remember. My aim is that all black and diverse students have a voice, and that equality and diversity is at the forefront of our minds and agendas. I am excited to widen participation and engagement with the Racial Diversity Campaigns Group at the Students’ Union, and hope to see as many students as possible taking part in our events and opportunities this month and in the future.

Can’t wait to meet you all!
